15 Vegetables and Fruits recommended during confinement period

You have heard many “Dos” and “Donts” even before you give birth! Enough on that, let’s focus on what to eat!

Vegetables and fruits are classified according to their natural properties. In TCM, Food with warm and neutral properties are often recommended during confinement period. While food with cooling properties are least recommended or best, avoided.

Eating vegetables is good during confinement being fiber-rich food which may help digestive system during confinement period. 

Here are some food choices to consider besides the herbs:

1. Choy Sum/ Chye Sim

Rich in carotene (pro-vitamin A), calcium and dietary fibre, potassium and folic acid, high in vitamin K

 Green Papaya (Net Weight ± 50 gm) - Beshi Deshi

2.  Green papaya

Rich in potassium, magnesium, and vitamins like A, C, B and E and and enzymes. It helps to boost Milk supply

This is NOT recommended while pregnant


3. Broccoli

Rich in Vitamin C, K,Calcium and good antioxidant food







4.  Lotus Root/ Seed

Improves digestion, immune, rich Vitamin B6, C

and good for lung







5.  Lily Bulb

rich in Folate (folic acid), has calming effect and good for lung






6.  Carrots

Known for being Super Vitamin A, promote healthier skin

7.  Spinach

Very rich in Iron, Magnesium, Vitamin A, B6, C and many more







8. Kau Kee Leaf

Rich in Vitamin C and E and known to be good for eyesight





9.  Sweet Potato Leaf

Rich in Vitamin B6, C, D Magnesium, Iron as well as potassium

10.  Ginger

Always known as best relief to digestive problems, nausea, loss of appetite,expel wind and keeping blood well circulated






11. Wood Ear (black/ white fungus)

Clearing blood clot, nourishes “Yin”, lowers cholesterol, rich in collagen
